The Program
Trail to Success is a collaborative after-school and family empowerment program for Chavez Elementary students residing on High Ridge Trail. To assist in creating more equitable opportunities for all students and aligned with the Chávez equity vision of “Building strong relationships and thriving scholars,” Trail to Success was developed during the 2016-17 school year. The program’s mission is to strengthen school-community relationships in this neighborhood by increasing accessibility to academic and enrichment programming for students and families. This is the third year for this program and are hoping to expand enrollment before the end of the year.
Results
The results within the first year of programming were astounding! Students who participated in the program showed over 15% greater academic growth in both literacy and math than their like peers who did not participate in the program AND greater growth than the overall Chávez student population.
Fundraising Event
To keep this great momentum going and continue this gap-closing work, we need to look to other sources for funding the sustainability of this program. As such, we invite you to join us on Saturday, November 10th for a night of great food, entertainment, and a silent auction as we raise money for the Trail to Success program. Food will be catered by Hy-vee and Chick-fil-A. Throughout the evening you will enjoy live music, trivia, silent auction, food, and more. All money raised will provide teacher salaries for the after-school program. Hope you can join us and bring a friend!
