The Chavez PTO is SO EXCITED to be back with you all for another school year at Chavez Elementary! We wanted to introduce you to what the PTO does!

The PTO (parent teacher organization) is a group of parent and teacher volunteers who work together to benefit the students and staff at Chavez Elementary.

The PTO is always busy! What do we do with our time and your generous donations? Here are just a few things our time and your donated funds were able to accomplish last year:

• Fun events, including the Cheetah Chase and the Fall Fun Find
• Community building events, such as the school-wide Build-a-Cheetah day
• Staff appreciation events, including events during teacher appreciation week and dinners during late night conferences
• The Holiday Cheer Drive, providing gifts for Chavez families in need
• The school community garden project
• Purchasing needed materials for the school – including large purchases such as outdoor picnic tables and a set of pedometers for gym class and smaller purchases such as classroom books and posters, flexible classroom seating options, recess equipment, and many more.

With your continued support, we hope to make this year another great one. Thanks everyone for being a part of the Chavez family!

We’re planning fun events this year, including a return of the Fun Fair, another fantastic Cheetah Chase, and the year-ending teacher dunking and Wisconsin Brewing Company! Coming up in October, we’ll be hosting our first ever outdoor movie night.

There are so many ways for you to connect to our school community – whether it’s helping out in the school garden, getting advice in our Facebook group, joining us at Pastries with the Principal or volunteering at an event.

We host Chávez Chats (caregiver listening sessions on Zoom) to provide a space for families and caregivers to connect and talk with Chávez Staff and one another–this is not a presentation, but rather a drop in session for connection. They will not be recorded. Please see below for sessions and Zoom links.

About the Chávez PTO

There are no fees or forms to join the Chávez PTO. Every Chávez family is welcome at all PTO events.

We are a volunteer-run, nonprofit organization dedicated to the successful education of our students by enhancing communication between home and school; supporting and supplementing the needs of teachers and staff; helping to meet the expectations of and overcome any challenges for the students, teachers, families, and the entire Chávez community.

Our meetings are the first Tuesday of the month, following the Chavez Chat call. Chávez parents/guardians are always welcome.

1. When: Saturday, March 7, 10 AM – 2 PM
2. What to bring: Bring cereal/cakes/cookies for the Cake Walk or 2-liter bottles for the Bottle Toss game (or drop them off at school on Friday). 
3. Free tickets! Each student gets 5 free tickets. You can purchase additional tickets for 3/$1. Pick up your free tickets at the tables in front of the stage in the cafeteria. Tickets can be used for games, balloons, activities, food, or to buy spirit sticks.

5. Silent Auction. Our auction is live now through Sunday evening. Stop in the LMC during Fun Fair to see the auction items for yourself. 
6. Good eats! There will be snacks and lunch food available. Check out our menu. 
7. Collect stamps, win prizes! When you win a game, your prize card will get stamped. Go to the Prize Booth to trade your stamps for prizes. 
8. Parking. You can park in the front or back lot, and in marked street spots. Please don’t park in the fire lane.
9. Have fun!

Chávez Auction Is Live

Now through March 8, you can place your online bids for the Chávez auction! We have tons of great items this year, including Comedy Club passes, a diamond pendant, a tie dye party, and more! The proceeds stay right here to support the PTO. We use these funds for things like the Fall Dance, recognition for Safety Patrol, Chávez-wide activities, and teacher appreciation. 

One Week Until Fun Fair

When: March 7, 10 AM – 2 PM
What: The Fun Fair features carnival games, face painting, food, and fun for the whole family!
Who: All Chávez families are welcome! Each student gets 5 free tickets. 
How you can help:

• Volunteer: The Volunteer sign up form is available! Most slots are 1 hour, which gives you plenty of time to volunteer and then hop back into the fair fun! We need about 30-40 volunteers each hour to keep the Fun Fair running. No experience is needed and everyone is welcome! HIgh schoolers looking for volunteer hours are welcome to sign up as well!
• Bring 2 Liter Bottles of Soda. We need MORE bottles for the 2 Liter toss game. Drop them off in the cafeteria this week or bring them with you to the Fun Fair. 
• Bring Cakes/Cereal for the Cake Walk. Drop off your treats on Thur/Fri, or bring them to the Fun Fair with you. Cupcakes, prepackaged or home-made treats, and boxes of cereal are welcome.
